Hello munchies!
Warning: I use the word Amazing a lot! Yesterday I had an amazing trip to London town. The city is so different in the summer, people are happier, music is louder and the streets are busier than ever. Unlike any other city London is full of green space which really comes to life in the summer, everywhere is an explosion of colour, this is the place you want to be in the summer. So lets get on with what I did this time, shall we?
Chelsea and South Kensington |
The first borough I visited was Chelsea and Kensington and from the picture above you can see just how lovely the area was and this photo was taken just outside the tube station. Along the first street you reach from the station there are lines either side of artisan cafes and restaurants. So I stopped of at one of the creperies, oddly enough I didn't actually have a crepe. But oh well and instead I had an ear grey. I sipped on it outside as I watched everyone run about or strolling. Across the way was a beautiful French patisserie which looked amazing! So next time I'm in the area I'll be there.
A small view of the museum |
Once I'd drank my tea I was off to the Victoria and Albert museum to see the Shoe exhibition. The museum was as the title says built by Queen Vicky and her husband to show off all of their collections . It is a beautiful building, every stone is covered in a sprinkle of decoration and the inside, some may even say is even more jaw-dropping. Every wall is covered in ancient art and there are a lot , and may I repeat a lot of Grecian models. I think you know what I mean by that.
The grand entrance |
Sadly we weren't allowed to take any pictures or sketches inside the exhibition so here's one of a big arch. Great! Anyway, the show was AMAZING! It was really well done there were modern shoes next to ancient shoes and tiny shoes next to huge shoes. It felt oddly organized, my favourite was a pair of Jimmy Choos, green stilettos, with embellishments and feathers adorned. They were mind bogglingly beautiful. We also learnt how shoes were made completely by hand without any machinery or anything. The shoes were organized in purpose , either award shows, runways or seduction (KINKY!). It felt very grand as they were hidden behind sparkling glass with smudge marks and bordered with velvet curtains. There was also an inspiring video at the end where Manolo Blahnik, Jimmy choo and other shoe makers talked about their processes, story and inspirations. Definitely a good way to end an exhibition. If you are in London anytime soon, you'd better go see it. http://www.vam.ac.uk/
Once we'd finished at the V&A we took a tube to St Pauls Cathedral for a look around and a visit to the whispering gallery. As it was a beautiful day in London the steps were full of people and of course London's best friend, pigeons. Yay! Like before I wasn't allowed to take any pictures inside . Before we went up to the whispering gallery we took a walk around the main part of the cathedral and gazed up at all of the beauty. The ceiling was adorned with huge cupids and gold leaf and the walls intricately carved. You really have to see it to understand the immense beauty of it. Once we had seen a bit of the main bit we took the claustrophobic steps up to the whispering gallery. It was so cool. You could be at any point on the floor and whisper into the wall for somebody else to hear it. You could go further up and look out across the entire city, It would have been amazing but we decided cake would be better, so instead we went down into the crypt and had tea and a scone. If you think about it we were eating near dead people. Ugh that's creepy.
A buzzing Covent garden |
We then hopped onto the tube and went over to, my favourite place in London, Covent garden. Just for a shop and to eat again. For a while we stood and watched the musician performing in the market, they were so talented. We then went into a few makeup shops and got lost finding urban outfitters. We did find it though! When it was closing, totally great. All that getting lost was hungry work though, so we decided to have a waggas. You can't go wrong with that can you now.
A closed Tube station |
It was starting to get darker, so we decided to set sail, annoyingly though the tubes were on strike, so we needed to walk all the way to St Pancras. Half an hour walk through London with a belly full of Wagammas. Nice! We did see a lot though, Bloomsbury, the British museum and beautiful squares. It wasn't too bad in the end though. It was a great tiring day and you know it was a good day it your feet feel like they were going to fall off at the end. Don't forget to follow, see you soon xx
I've only every been to london once, and it was only for a short while, but I really want to go back with a group of friends and just walk around, because that's my favourite way to explore places :) Your day sounded like so much fun, I hope it just gets better from here on for you.
